Dental Exams and X-Rays
Healthy teeth and gums are achieved with regular dental services. Routine dental examinations and x-rays are part of this process. It is highly recommended that patients of all ages visit a dentist at least twice a year for a check-up, which typically includes a thorough dental cleaning with our oral hygienists. When patients visit Edna Dentistry every six months for an evaluation, they greatly reduce the risk of developing preventable issues, improve their chances of diagnosing problems early enough for successful intervention, and easily avoid the costs associated with intensive, invasive procedures later on.
During a dental examination, our dentist visually inspects the teeth and gums. This can be done with special dental tools such as mouth mirrors or high-intensity lights. During this evaluation, the dentist is evaluating the health of the smile. He is looking for damaged teeth, signs of decay, or the symptoms of periodontal disease. He may also check the restorations in the smile, such as crowns, fillings, and veneers, to make sure they are in place and functioning at their best. The dentist may ask about your medical history to determine if any new or existing conditions may be affecting your dental health, and he may perform an oral cancer screening at the same time. During an evaluation, x-rays are commonly completed to check for any problems lying underneath the gum tissue, such as cavities, infection inside of a tooth, or signs of bone loss in the jaw. Most x-rays are done every year to evaluate possible concerns and monitor oral health over time.
